Connected Therapy Practice

About Me

Check out this video and this page to get to know me!

Hi, I'm Kevin Coleman, a Marriage and Family Therapist in Columbia, SC

I love being with people and supporting them one-on-one, and I’m blessed to get to do that as my career.

When I was fifteen years old, I knew that I wanted to be a therapist, and help people navigate through the hardest parts of their lives. I really care about people, and I’ve always had a knack for understanding the ins and outs of how we think and feel.

Through my teenage and college years, I was blessed to have incredible friendships and relationships which let me care for many people and hear their stories. The deep friendships and relationships I’ve had have taught me so much about what it means to be with someone when life is difficult and encourage them to go get the life they want.

I also wanted to be a therapist because I saw the potential in people, the image of what their life could be like, and I had to help them get there. I’ve seen so many people settle for mediocre or miserable lives, and I never want anyone to settle for just getting by. That’s why I wanted to be a therapist. There is so much more to life than just surviving, and it is worth the risk to hope that life could be better with a new perspective. I came to realize this as a teenager, and my experiences as an adult have only strengthened my determination to help people believe that they are worth it, and that they don’t have to settle for a mediocre, “just-getting-by” life. As a therapist here in Columbia, I have the privilege of helping my clients get from just surviving, to thriving.

My Faith

I also became a Christian when I was a teenager, and my faith has sustained me through many ups and downs in my life. Now, as an adult, the community I enjoy with other Christians helps me stay connected and accountable in my journey. I genuinely enjoy being a part of my local church, although I am very biased because I met the most beautiful woman in the world through our church and married her not long after.

While I am a Christian, I trained at a non-religious institution, and I love working with clients who are both Christians and of other faiths. I always ask my clients early in the therapy process if they have a religious or spiritual faith which is important to them, and we can discuss faith as much or as little as my clients would like. Also, I wrote a short book about finding a career that God has called you to, and I encourage you to check that out here!

I enjoy my work, and I also love living in South Carolina because it feels homey to me, especially when I can explore the countryside or small towns around the state. If you see me around Columbia, you might catch me enjoying some local barbecue, going out on a date with my wife, or playing pickup soccer or ultimate frisbee on the weekends.

I hope this page has helped you get to know me a bit, and I’d be glad to answer any more questions you have should we have a session together.
