Therapy for Anxiety
In today’s world, many of us struggle with anxiety, and sometimes we even get so anxious that we start missing out on life because of it. Thankfully, therapy for your anxiety can give you your life back. [Note: If you’re interested in pursuing financial therapy with me, click here]
Anxiety Weighs You Down
Anxiety can really overwhelm us when you try not to be anxious, but then your anxiety only gets worse. Maybe you lay awake at night worrying about tomorrow, or the next week, or the next year. Maybe you’ve wished that your thoughts would stop, or that you could just relax, even for one minute, and remember what it’s like to feel calm.
And then, when your anxiety keeps growing, it interferes with your life. It starts showing up in so many different ways, maybe you start avoiding conflict, or you procrastinate, or you stay in a job or relationship way longer than you should have (for more on how anxiety affects romantic relationships, check out my blog post “Your Anxiety Doesn’t Have to Ruin Your Relationship.”) Also, as life goes on, it will even affect your relationships with your kids, so you might find yourself scared to interact with your own children because you’re worried about upsetting or disappointing them.
The point is this: Anxiety takes no prisoners, and it will poison every area of your life if left unchecked. Anxiety in moderation can motivate us and actually benefit us, but too much anxiety will paralyze and suffocate you.
Anxiety Doesn’t Work For Long
Before I opened my practice, I worked in clinical psychological research, specifically focusing on anxiety disorders. I studied Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder the most, and I found something interesting in my studies: Anxious people often appeared like they were thriving in life. They worked hard at their jobs, tried desperately to please their spouse, friends, and family, and strove for perfection at everything (for more on that, check out my post on why perfectionism is overrated).
But beneath the surface, they were exhausted, overwhelmed, and trying to keep it all together so they wouldn’t make anyone else worry about them. Instead of another place where they were expected to perform, they needed someone to just be present with them, listen to them, and be patient with them as they learned to handle their anxious thoughts and feelings. I transitioned to being a therapist rather than a researcher so that I could walk through the hardest seasons of life with my clients, and so they could know they aren’t alone in their struggles.
You Deserve Support
But, the good news is that you don’t have live in anxiety, and your life does not have to be ruled by it. You can choose how to live, rather than let your anxiety decide for you. My clients consistently experience freedom from their anxiety through understanding what makes them so anxious and taking practical steps to push back against their anxiety. I love serving people with therapy for their anxiety because I’ve seen how they improve their lives, and I want everyone to experience that freedom as we work together.
If you feel alone, and fear telling someone how overwhelmed you feel, then I want to listen and reassure you that you can overcome this. You don’t have to walk through this by yourself, because I want to take on your anxiety together.
Also, I love sitting with you and talking through the hard stuff, because I have the freedom to speak into your life from a new perspective. So when we talk, I can help you see where you can breathe deeply and let that anxiety go. I consistently see my clients get their head above the waves of life, so they can see clearly and rest again. Then, you will handle life from your newfound position of strength as your anxiety lessens.
Let’s Work Through This Together
Good therapy for anxiety uses a two-pronged approach: We need to change the way we think about ourselves, and we also need to change the way we treat ourselves. At the core of all this, I want you to wake up tomorrow and know that you are worth it, you matter, and you can do this. I promise you this can happen, and by working with a good therapist you can make it happen. You don’t have to always feel this anxious, and you can enjoy your life again.
